Morocco: Tanger Mayor Detained in Electoral Fraud Investigation

Tanger mayor Mounir Limouri, a member of the PAM, was detained upon arrival at Tanger airport as part of an electoral fraud investigation. His arrest follows the detention of a voting station official found with documents potentially used to rig votes. The Moroccan justice has announced an administrative investigation into these allegations amid claims of vote manipulation during the legislative elections, which had a record low turnout of 38.02%. The PAM secured 97 of 395 seats in the House of Representatives, and the king is expected to appoint a new prime minister, with Fouzi Lekjaa or Fatima Ezzahra El Mansouri as leading candidates.
