Mother, Newborn and Six Others Die in Captivity in Kaduna State

Eight of the 11 residents abducted on April 20, 2026, from Awon in Kachia Local Government Area of Kaduna State reportedly died in captivity after six months. The victims included a mother, her two daughters, a newborn, 34-year-old Yusuf Bawa and his five-year-old son; several reportedly died from illness and hunger. The bandits demanded 300 million naira and 23 motorcycles, rejected the community’s offer and threatened to withhold food from the captives. Journalist Reuben Buhari confirmed the deaths in a Facebook post on October 22; police had not responded to calls at the time of reporting.
