MURIC Demands Immediate Reopening of Mogadishu Cantonment Mosque

Muslim Rights Concern (MURIC) has demanded the immediate reopening of the Mogadishu Cantonment mosque in Abuja, which Nigerian Army authorities reportedly closed on October 12, 2026. In a statement issued Tuesday and signed by its Executive Director, Professor Isiaq Akintola, the organisation said the closure denies Muslims their right to worship. MURIC said it infringes on the freedom of worship of Muslim soldiers and their relatives living in and around the cantonment. It called for the mosque to reopen or for the authorities to provide a convincing and incontrovertible reason for its closure.
