Museveni puts NRM, opposition leaders on notice over oversight failures

President Yoweri Museveni warned that both ruling party and opposition leaders who fail to supervise government programmes could face legal action. He spoke at the unveiling of Uganda's Ush84.4 trillion ($22.5 billion) national budget for the 2026/27 financial year in Kampala. Museveni accused many elected officials of neglecting their oversight duties while citizens suffer from corruption and poor programme implementation. He asked the Attorney General to explore ways to deal with leaders who are paid to monitor but do not work.
