Museveni Says Uganda Will Pursue Small Oil Refinery in Uganda

Ugandan President Yoweri Museveni announced that Uganda will pursue the construction of a small oil refinery despite Dangote's decision to develop a larger project in Kenya. He mentioned that a facility could be built in Hoima with a capacity of 60,000 to 120,000 barrels to reduce reliance on regional refineries. Museveni also discussed past talks about a refinery in Tanga, Tanzania, but expressed support for the Lamu project, stating he would not invest yet and wanted further discussions with Kenyan and Tanzanian leaders. Uganda's plan to develop its refining capacity is driven by its decision to process its crude oil domestically before export.
