‘My daughter is my biggest priority’: Naomi Osaka considers quitting tennis

Naomi Osaka said in Tokyo that she might quit tennis if her three-year-old daughter, Shai, asked her to travel less. The four-time Grand Slam champion, now ranked 19th, returned to the tour in 2023 after taking 15 months off following her daughter’s birth and had also stepped away in 2021 to focus on her mental health. Osaka condemned the racist online abuse directed at Coco Gauff and said the WTA’s efforts to tackle social media abuse did not seem to work fully. Seeded seventh in Tokyo, she will face Jasmine Paolini in the first round and said she was optimistic about next year.
