‘My hands are empty’: Displaced Palestinians struggle to survive

Hakim Mar’i lives in a dilapidated apartment in Tulkarem, unable to work due to a severely infected leg injury sustained while working in Israel in 2019. His family was displaced from the now-emptied Tulkarem refugee camp, leaving behind rubble and iron structures. Facing mounting debts and potential eviction, Mar’i has considered suicide multiple times over the past year and a half, as he cannot afford medical treatment for his infections and untreated conditions.
