N1 inbound reopens after truck crashes into Cape Town pedestrian bridge

The N1 near Paarden Eiland has reopened after emergency repairs to a pedestrian bridge damaged by a truck carrying an industrial tank on Saturday night. The Lower Church Street pedestrian bridge on FW de Klerk Boulevard was struck by a heavy articulated truck, causing the load to dislodge and debris to scatter across the highway. Engineers worked throughout Sunday and overnight to lift and realign a 50-ton section of the damaged bridge, allowing the N1 to reopen, although residual traffic delays may still occur.
