N70,000 relief is not enough for workers, NLC counters Oshiomhole

The Kaduna branch of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) disputed Senator Adams Oshiomhole’s praise for the federal plan to give workers N70,000 a month in transport support. Its chairman, Ayuba Magaji Suleiman, said the payment would offer only temporary relief and would not offset rising food, transport, rent, school and medical costs, electricity bills and cooking gas prices. He put the monthly total at N170,000, including the N70,000 minimum wage, a N30,000 wage award and the new transport support. Suleiman called for fresh wage talks to start at N500,000 and urged governments to reduce living costs, including by providing cheaper public transport.
