In Kinshasa, National Climate Week opens with a focus on carbon market opportunities

The second National Climate Week (SENAC II) opened in Kinshasa on October 26 under the theme of opportunities offered by carbon markets in the Democratic Republic of the Congo. Through October 30, national and international stakeholders, customary authorities, and local Indigenous peoples’ committees will discuss the development of the market. Deputy Prime Minister Jacquemin Shabani and Environment Minister Marie Nyange Ndambo said carbon-market mechanisms could finance forest conservation, land restoration, sustainable agriculture, and clean energy while creating local jobs and income. Nyange Ndambo called for a credible, transparent, and equitable market as the DRC prepares for COP 31 in Antalya, Turkey.

Authorities are urged to strengthen heat warnings and health preparedness, while residents are advised to stay hydrated, seek shade and check on vulnerable people.
