Nairobi Among Counties Forecast to Have a Hot November Despite Rain

Kenya's meteorological service forecasts above-average November temperatures in Nairobi, Kiambu and Murang'a, generally ranging from 20°C to 30°C, despite rainfall expected to be above normal. Nyandarua, Laikipia, Nyeri, Kirinyaga, Meru, Embu and Tharaka-Nithi are expected to experience similar conditions, while some arid areas could average above 28°C. The rainfall could disrupt transport and increase the risk of flash floods, river flooding and landslides in vulnerable areas.

The second addresses funding for those goals, but how contributions should be shared among countries remains contentious. French minister Monique Barbut and environmental NGOs welcomed the agreement as a positive signal while saying it falls short of what is needed, including on harmful environmental subsidies.

Over 811 Million People Live in Extreme Poverty Globally

In 2026, over 811 million people—one in ten globally—live on less than $3 a day, a rate unchanged since 2019, according to the World Bank’s biennial report. More than half of those in extreme poverty live in nine economies, and over 87% are projected to be in Sub-Saharan Africa, fragile and conflict-affected situations, or both by 2030. The report says 3.7 billion people live on less than $8.30 a day and warns that climate shocks threaten poverty-reduction gains. It estimates that closing employment gaps and raising poor workers’ earnings could substantially reduce extreme poverty.
