NANS urges NAFDAC to test drugs and food sold around campuses

The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) urged NAFDAC to conduct random tests on medicines, food, drinks and packaged water sold near tertiary institutions. In a letter to the agency’s Director-General, Mojisola Adeyeye, dated October 16, 2026, NANS health director Augustine Onovughegor cited reports of kidney and liver complications, seizures, infections and suspected poisoning among young people. The association called for stronger campus-area inspections, public alerts, recalls of unsafe products and prosecution of responsible manufacturers or distributors. It also proposed working with campus health services and creating a public database of registered products.
