National Assembly Adopts Bill to Reform the Sports Sector in the DRC

The DRC National Assembly unanimously adopted a bill on Monday, November 2, 2026, to reform the principles governing the organization and promotion of physical and sporting activities. Introduced by Serge Chembo Nkonde, an MP for Sakania and former sports minister, the bill amends and supplements Law No. 11/023 of December 24, 2011. Among its key measures is the construction of at least one stadium in every province and territorial entity, bringing sports facilities closer to residents and encouraging participation in sports across the country.

After adopting the motion, the House urged the authorities to verify and pay all legally owed arrears within a clearly defined period.

They say the new list conflicts with an earlier presidential directive naming Governor Ademola Adeleke to lead the state campaign, after which he inaugurated a broad-based team. The dissenting members urge the APC’s national leadership, especially its National Secretary, to intervene, prevent division and clarify the committees’ responsibilities.
