National Consumer Commission inspects 777 suppliers as food-safety crackdown intensifies

Since April 2026, the National Consumer Commission (NCC) has inspected over 777 suppliers nationwide as part of an intensified crackdown on unsafe products and violations of the Consumer Protection Act. During the inaugural KwaZulu-Natal Food Safety Indaba in Durban, Acting Commissioner Hardin Ratshisusu highlighted concerns about product non-compliance, including expired goods, improper or foreign-language labeling, and widespread disregard for consumer laws. The NCC aims to bring an additional 1,000 suppliers into compliance to improve food safety and consumer trust.
