National heroes: Why the National Assembly wants to honor five historic figures from the DRC, including Étienne Tshisekedi wa Mulumba

The DRC National Assembly adopted a resolution at its plenary session on November 6, 2026, at the Palais du Peuple, proposing that five historic figures be admitted to the National Order of National Heroes. The nominees are Kimpa Vita, Simon Kimbangu, Christophe Munzihirwa Mwene Ngabo, Étienne Tshisekedi wa Mulumba, and Emmanuel Kataliko. Read by Assembly rapporteur Jacques Djoli, the resolution is based on Law No. 25/057 of December 2025, which broadens recognition previously limited to Patrice Emery Lumumba and Laurent-Désiré Kabila. It is intended to honor Congolese people who rendered heroic service to the nation.
