Navi Pillay, former UN human rights chief, wins Nobel Peace Prize

Navi Pillay, former UN human rights chief and judge at the International Court of Justice, was awarded the 2026 Nobel Peace Prize for her efforts to promote peace and international law. The 85-year-old South African has been involved in high-profile cases of human rights violations in Rwanda, Myanmar, and Gaza, and previously defended anti-apartheid activists in South Africa. She is the country's fifth Peace Prize laureate, following Nelson Mandela and Desmond Tutu. She dedicated her award to survivors of international crimes and practitioners of international justice.
