New developments around former president Macky Sall’s return to Senegal

Infrastructure built for the Dakar 2026 Youth Olympic Games is renewing calls for Macky Sall to return, as Senegal faces tensions between the executive and legislative branches. Political analyst Assane Samb says the former president could come back and make another bid, citing his popularity, visible achievements and the immunity granted to former heads of state under Article 101 of the Constitution.
