New Electoral Body and Political Prisoners: What the UN Representative and PPA-CI Discussed

The UN Special Representative for West Africa and the Sahel, Leonardo Santos Simão, met with a delegation from PPA-CI to discuss the establishment of a new electoral body following the dissolution of the Independent Electoral Commission in May 2026, and the situation of political prisoners in Ivory Coast. Led by first vice-president Assoa Adou, the delegation raised concerns about democracy, electoral reform, and the detention of political prisoners. The meeting allowed for discussions on these issues, which the UN envoy said he would raise with the government.
