New GBVF council faces pressure to deliver funding and accountability

The new National Council on Gender-Based Violence and Femicide in South Africa is under pressure to turn policy commitments into concrete funding and support for survivors. During its inaugural meeting in Pretoria, the council agreed to develop a costing framework for the GBVF response and identify funding gaps. Ilitha Labantu spokesperson Siyabulela Monakali emphasized that the identified problems are not new and that implementation remains a major challenge.
