New literary prize launched for books ‘written with AI’

French entrepreneurs Philippe Rodriguez, Albin Serviant and Gilles Mentré have launched the Prix Pascal for unpublished French-language fiction co-written with artificial intelligence. The prize is open to writers across the Francophone world, with no nationality, residency or publisher requirement, and has no jury or announced prize money yet. Submissions close on November 30, and the award is due to be presented in mid-December. Its launch comes amid debate over AI in French literature, after Canadian publisher Boréal confirmed that Thelyson Orelien used AI in writing his novel, which won the FNAC prize before he was dropped from the Goncourt shortlist.
