New vocational GCSE subjects to be introduced in schools

Starting in 2029, new vocational GCSE subjects will be introduced for 14-year-olds in England, including building and construction, business management, and child development. Prime Minister Andy Burnham also aims to create 200,000 work experience opportunities for under-16s as part of education reforms. The qualifications will be nationally regulated by Ofqual and will gradually replace other qualifications like BTec, providing a clear pathway to college or employment. In Wales, a new VCSE qualification will be launched in 2027, offering 15 subjects such as Animal Care and Motor Vehicle Maintenance.
