New wave of bomb threats hit European airlines

On Friday, bomb threats targeted flights to and from Lisbon, Rome, Prague and Sofia, marking the third such incident this week. Three planes were escorted by Hungarian fighter jets; at least 11 flights in the Czech Republic and Bulgaria and four French flights were also targeted, but all landed safely and no explosives were found. Media organisations, including Irish public broadcaster RTÉ, the Irish Independent and radio stations NewstalkFM and TodayFM, were evacuated or told to leave their buildings. Ireland’s government said the disruption was likely coordinated, although no link between the threats against airlines and media outlets has been established and those responsible are unknown.
