Niger: a major oil and gas eruption in the desert

A massive oil and gas eruption occurred on September 25 at the Goumeri W8 well in the Agadem region, about 1700 km from Niamey. The incident caused a jet of crude oil and gas over ten meters high, with a spill covering several hundred meters on the ground. Authorities stated the situation was partially under control, ruling out criminal or terrorist involvement, and announced an investigation with Algerian experts.
