Niger: After Military Support, Algeria Launches Mediation with Chad

Algerian Foreign Minister Ahmed Attaf visited N’Djamena on November 3, 2026, as a special envoy of President Abdelmadjid Tebboune, and met Chadian President Mahamat Idriss Déby Itno. The diplomatic visits come as Algeria has strengthened military support for Niger since the August mutiny, including sending military aircraft and a first contingent of soldiers in late October. The back-to-back visits to the two capitals could help ease tensions between Niger and Chad.
