Niger: Algeria deploys four SU-30 fighters following attempted mutiny

Four Algerian Sukhoi Su-30 fighters landed in Niamey on August 30, 2026, in response to a request from Nigerien authorities following an attempted mutiny. This deployment was ordered by General Saïd Chanegriha on the instruction of President Abdelmadjid Tebboune. Niger's Prime Minister Mahamane Lamine Zeine thanked Algeria for this support, which is part of a diplomatic warming between the two countries. This gesture follows a donation of four helicopters made by Algeria to the Nigerien armed forces on August 9, 2026.
