Niger: Benin rejects accusations of involvement in Niamey mutiny

On September 4, the Beninese government rejected accusations of involvement in the Niamey mutiny, stating it had no interest in destabilizing Niger. Spokesperson Wilfried Houngbedji emphasized the need to ease relations between the two countries, recalling the historical ties between their populations. Nigerien authorities had previously accused several countries, including Benin, of supporting the mutiny that occurred on August 28 and 29.
