On September 25, 2026, Niger's military junta signed an agreement with Australian company Atomic Eagle to revive uranium mining through the Madaouela Mining Company (MAMICO), owned 60% by Atomic Eagle and 40% by the Nigerien government. The project, located in Agadez, includes an initial royalty of $10 million, local development investments, and the creation of around 1,000 jobs for young Nigeriens. This agreement resolves a dispute from the expropriation of GoviEx Uranium's project in 2024, with Atomic Eagle formed from the merger of GoviEx and Tombador Iron in November 2025.
