Niger deaths: Mining Marshals deny involvement in September operation

Mining Marshals commander John Onoja Attah says no personnel from the NSCDC unit took part in the September 16 operation at M.I. Wushishi Housing Estate in Minna, where deaths in custody are under investigation. He rejected remarks attributed to suspended Niger State NSCDC commandant Suberu Siyaka Aniviye, who reportedly said he had deployed Mining Marshals personnel to the site. Onoja Attah said the unit operates under the direct control of the NSCDC national headquarters and its records show no deployment for the operation. An inquiry led by Justice Mohammed Mohammed is investigating the deaths and will determine which personnel participated.
