Niger Delta: Tension as over 100 oil producing communities protest non-payment of entitlements

More than 100 oil-producing communities and families in the Niger Delta protested in Port Harcourt, demanding about 87 billion naira in overdue ground rent payments. They accuse Renaissance Africa Energy, formerly Shell, of neglecting their dues from 2014 to 2023 and are calling for standardized payments of 600,000 naira per hectare. The protesters carried placards urging Shell/Renaissance to comply with federal and Senate resolutions and criticized unequal payment rates among communities.
