Niger-France: Paris expels 2 Nigerien agents accused of espionage

France expelled two Nigerien agents stationed at the Niger embassy in Paris, declared persona non grata on September 16 and left France three days later. One of them is suspected of monitoring Nigerien opposition members in France on behalf of the military authorities in Niamey. Their presence was no longer justified due to the lack of bilateral cooperation following the rupture of relations between Niger and France. The Niger embassy in Paris remains open, unlike the French embassy in Niamey, which closed after the July 2023 coup.
