Niger: Gunfire exchanges in Niamey, national television signal cut

Heavy gunfire exchanges paralyzed Niamey on Saturday morning, leading to the interruption of public television broadcasts. Access to strategic areas, such as the presidency and the television station, was blocked by military personnel. Niger is currently led by the junta of General Abdourahamane Tiani, who still holds ousted President Mohamed Bazoum captive. The incidents appear to be of greater magnitude than previous jihadist attacks.
