Niger miners’ deaths: Panel assures families of fair investigation

The 10-member independent investigative committee set up by the Nigerian government to investigate the deaths of 37 artisanal miners in custody of the NSCDC assured the victims’ families of a fair and independent investigation. Committee chairman Jonathan Kure met with Niger State Governor Umaru Bago to begin the investigation, emphasizing the importance of early medical examinations to preserve evidence. Kure pledged the committee's impartiality, accountability, and fair treatment of all involved or wrongly linked to the incident. Governor Bago thanked the committee and promised support from his administration.
