The IMF has reached a preliminary agreement with Niger, allowing the country to receive approximately 203 million dollars over three years to support its economic reforms. Despite the military junta in power largely snubbing the West in favor of Russia and emphasizing economic autonomy, Niger continues to work with the IMF, which advocates fiscal orthodoxy and market openness. The agreement, based on a 38-month Extended Credit Facility, still requires approval from the IMF's Board of Directors. The program aims to consolidate macroeconomic stability and support Niger's development strategy for 2025-2029.
