Niger: PCRC launches security app to strengthen school safety

The Police Community Relations Committee (PCRC) launched its PCRC BOOSTAR security app in Minna to help schools report threats and enable authorities to locate emergencies using geolocation. The launch coincided with the National Safe Schools Initiative, which also provides for Safe Schools Clubs in schools. National Safe Schools Technical Director Dr Benson Olatunji said rollout would take place in phases, including collecting school data and training stakeholders. Police, PCRC and Nigeria Labour Congress representatives called for community cooperation, including the involvement of parent-teacher associations and traditional institutions.
