Amnesty International reported that at least 1,100 people were abducted in northern Nigeria between January and April 2026, urging President Bola Tinubu to take urgent action. The kidnappings, primarily driven by armed groups seeking ransom, target rural communities and internally displaced persons, with victims often subjected to inhumane treatment. Major incidents include the abduction of 176 people in Woro, 150 in Zamfara, and over 400 in Ngoshe.
