Nigerian Govt introduces fresh plan to reintegrate ex-terrorists

The Federal Government of Nigeria has introduced a new operational framework to improve the reintegration of former terrorists and others involved in armed violence. National Coordinator of the National Counter Terrorism Centre (NCTC), Maj Gen Adamu Laka, announced on Monday in Abuja at a National Validation Workshop the Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for Disarmament, Demobilisation and Reintegration (DDR) at the federal level and in the pilot states of Kaduna, Katsina and Zamfara. The procedures aim to coordinate non-military measures, enhance accountability and transparency, and are based on extensive consultations and international best practices.

Appeal Court reserves judgment on appeals against deregistration of ADC, 4 others

The Court of Appeal in Abuja has reserved judgment on appeals seeking to set aside the Federal High Court judgment that ordered the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to deregister the African Democratic Congress (ADC) and four other political parties. The other parties are the Action Peoples Party (APP), Action Alliance (AA), Accord Party (AP), and Zenith Labour Party (ZLP). The appellate court had previously stayed execution of the judgment, criticizing Justice Peter Lifu for disregarding a stay of proceedings order. The High Court had ordered deregistration for failing to meet constitutional requirements, barring the parties from participating in the 2027 general elections.
