Nigerian Law Society Urges LPPC to Publish SAN Candidates’ Scores

The Nigerian Law Society (NLS) has urged the Legal Practitioners Privileges Committee (LPPC) to publish the scores of candidates for the Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN) rank, including those on the longlist for the 2027 conferment. The request was made Tuesday by NLS Executive Director Dr Tonye Clinton Jaja and cites the transparency used in the UK’s appointment of King’s Counsel. The NLS mainly represents non-litigation lawyers, who it says have historically been overlooked for the SAN rank; its proposed alternative Blue Silks title is the subject of ongoing legal disputes involving the NBA, LPPC and judicial officials. Applications for the 2027 SAN rank opened on November 1, 2026, and close on January 31, 2027, with non-refundable fees of N5 million for private practitioners and N2.5 million for government-employed lawyers.
