Nigerian takes over global cancer control body

Nigerian paediatrician and cancer control campaigner Dr. Zainab Shinkafi-Bagudu has assumed the presidency of the Union for International Cancer Control (UICC) for the 2026–2028 term. Nigeria: Authorities respond after first Ebola case

Nigerian health authorities confirmed the country’s first Ebola case on Tuesday, in a woman who returned from Uganda to Abuja. Health Minister Muhammad Ali Pate said her symptoms began on October 7 and the infection was confirmed after she visited a private health facility on October 11. She is in isolation receiving medical care, and 44 close contacts are being monitored. The outbreak, which began in the Democratic Republic of the Congo in May, has also spread to Uganda and Kenya, where a ninth case was announced on Tuesday.
