Nigerian Teenager Sentenced for Defrauding American of $800

The Federal High Court in Ikoyi, Lagos, sentenced 18-year-old Hassan Usman Olamilekan for laundering $800 obtained through a lottery scam. After he pleaded guilty, the court imposed a fine of 200,000 naira and ordered him to pay one million naira in restitution to the Federal Government; he will remain in custody until both amounts are paid. The EFCC said he impersonated an American woman named Julie Leach on Zangi and persuaded U.S. citizen Gary Brewer to send gift cards to activate a supposed $250 million lottery prize. Arrested with 20 other suspects in Lekki on October 26, 2026, Olamilekan was also ordered to forfeit an iPhone 11 Pro and a Poco C71 phone.
