Nigeria’s army chief visited troops in the northeast after an attack killed 15 soldiers and five members of a local militia. Suspected Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) fighters stormed a base in Mairari, Borno State, on Tuesday night into Wednesday, looting weapons and equipment before setting the facility ablaze. The base was destroyed, and surviving troops withdrew to Monguno, about 18 kilometres away. Several soldiers were missing, raising fears they had been captured.
