NIMC cracks down on illegal NIN operators and seizes equipment in Abuja

Nigeria’s National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) arrested people involved in illegal NIN enrolment in Gwagwalada, in the Federal Capital Territory, and in other locations across the country. Its Inspectorate Compliance and Enforcement Unit also seized equipment used in the illicit activities. NIMC said the operation targets unauthorised enrolment, illegal data modifications and extortion of applicants, while Director-General Abisoye Coker-Odusote reaffirmed the commission’s zero tolerance for extortion and unprofessional conduct. The commission urged the public to use approved centres and official channels, including the NINAuth app, and provided its toll-free line, 0800 0616 462, for enquiries and complaints.

Defence lawyer Johnson Usman urged the court to acquit Mamu, while prosecutor David Kaswe argued that the evidence supported a conviction.
