No Ebola Cases in Niger State, but Suleja on High Alert, Health Commissioner Says

The Niger State Government says no active Ebola cases have been detected in Suleja or elsewhere in the state, but surveillance has been intensified after an imported case was confirmed in Abuja. Health Commissioner Dr Murtala Muhammad Bagana said Suleja is considered high risk because it borders the Federal Capital Territory and has substantial daily trade and transit with Abuja. Health workers have been sensitised to identify and report suspected cases promptly, and residents have been urged to rely on official updates. Nigeria confirmed a Bundibugyo Ebola case on October 20 in a 42-year-old woman who had recently travelled from Uganda; 44 contacts are being monitored.
