North Kivu: A day without activities this Monday to strengthen the fight against Ebola

The North Kivu provincial government declared Monday, October 19, a province-wide “Stop Ebola Day” to mobilize residents and strengthen public awareness. In Beni, shops and taxis were nearly at a standstill, while police checkpoints were set up; officials also condemned a decline in compliance with preventive measures. As of October 15, the province had recorded 2,055 cases, including 1,231 deaths, and at least three students had died of Ebola at a school in Beni. The government announced additional care centers, an Ebola treatment center in Mutwanga with support from Ugandan partners, and a cross-border meeting with Ugandan authorities.
