North Kivu: Cholera-like diarrhoea surges in Ufamandu, with dozens of deaths reported

Cholera-like diarrhoea has reportedly surged for nearly two weeks in the Ufamandu groupement, in Katoyi sector, North Kivu. Local sources report 20 deaths in Busiire, 15 in Kikoma and five in Biolo, with more than 100 people affected across at least four health areas; the figures have not yet been officially confirmed. Most victims are reportedly children, while displaced people and returnees living in precarious conditions are especially vulnerable. Katoyi health-zone chief Dr Justin Safari is awaiting detailed reports and has called for a humanitarian corridor as insecurity, access difficulties and shortages of medical supplies hamper care.
