The villages of Langira and Kyumba in the Walikale territory were largely evacuated by their residents on September 7, 2026, due to the advance of AFC/M23 rebels, who took control of Humura. According to the chief of Kyumba, Bandu Murongani Gédéon, residents fled out of fear of a rebel advance. Many families sought refuge in the bush or moved to other localities, exacerbating the humanitarian pressure in the region.
