The 950-year-old Bayeux Tapestry will be transported to London for a nine-month exhibition at the British Museum, the first time it leaves France in 900 years. French officials conducted two dry-runs with facsimiles to ensure safe transit. The artwork will be placed in a double aluminium crate with shock-absorbing springs, reducing vibrations by 96%. Heritage director Delphine Christophe says she is 'extremely serene' and that 'nothing has been left to chance.'
