NSFAS-funded students at the Cape Peninsula University of Technology (CPUT) fear their final meal allowance of R1,716, due on October 30, will not last until the academic calendar ends on December 21. They are concerned about affording food, accommodation and travel home for the festive season. The calendar was extended after a shutdown cost the university about three weeks of tuition, with reassessments moved to January 2027. Thapelo Lekalakala, a second-year engineering student at the Bellville campus, has exams scheduled until December 7.
