Oba of Benin suspends palace praise singers over unauthorised performance

The Oba of Benin, His Majesty Omo N’Oba N’Edo Uku’Akpolokpolo, Oba Ewuare II, has indefinitely suspended the Isikhuan royal praise singers for breaching palace rules and Benin tradition. The group allegedly violated an ancient taboo by performing at the residence of Chief Gabriel Osawaru Igbinedion. The leader of the group, Juliet Omogui, was stripped of her traditional title and directed to return the traditional headgear to the palace.
