Obituary: Death of former Wade-era minister and UCAD figure, Prof Diamé Signaté

Professor Diamé Signaté, a former minister, renowned linguist, and prominent figure at Cheikh Anta Diop University in Dakar, has died at the age of 78. A specialist in 16th and 17th-century French linguistics, he taught at UCAD from 1981 until his retirement in 2013, training many students. He also served as Minister of Technical Education and Vocational Training from 2007 to 2008 and as Senegal’s ambassador to Gambia from 2009 to 2012. His death has caused significant mourning in Tambacounda and the Senegalese academic community.
