Och’Idoma moves against child marriage, FGM, unequal inheritance rights, others

The Och’Idoma and Paramount Ruler of Idoma Kingdom, Agaba’Idu Elaigwu Odogbo John, called for the reform or discontinuation of 25 harmful cultural practices affecting women and girls, including child marriage and female genital mutilation. During the 2026 Traditional Leaders Conference in Abuja, he emphasized the need to treat daughters with the same respect as sons and to change the perception of bride price. Participants agreed that meaningful change must begin within families and traditional institutions.
